Legal Services available to CUA Members

1. FREE LEGAL HOTLINE

You can submit questions on matters of IT law or other areas to our associated law firm, Sprecher Grier Halberstam LLP (SGH). They will provide initial assistance without charge. As a CUA member, you can use the free hotline to discuss matters such as Domain name disputes, Data Protection concerns, IT contracts, E-Commerce contracts and Email policies.

2. FREE CONTRACT REVIEWS AND FIXED PRICE CONTRACTS

You can submit any contracting relating to IT procurement or the procurement of Website Design/Hosting services to SGH for outline review without charge. Members can use this service to determine their level of risk exposure and to use the results to negotiate more satisfactory contractual positions with suppliers.

SGH also has available a wide range of IT and E-Commerce contracts to cover issues such as Website Design, ASP Services, Software Maintenance, Engagement of Consultants and Employees. All of these are detailed on the Weblaw website and are available to CUA members at a discount of 25%.

3. LEGAL AUDIT OF YOUR WEBSITE

For a fixed fee of £450 + VAT, SGH will assess the legal compliance of your website in the light of existing UK legal requirements and provide you with a report by email identifying problem areas which you will need to address.

4. FREE EMAIL POLICY

SGH has prepared this document for employers. It seeks to cover the legal issues which employers should address and to provide them with practical advice and guidance on:-

  • the legal implications of the use of email and the internet in the workplace
  • employment law issues and what to include in contracts of employment
  • on copyright and other intellectual property issues
  • contract law issues
  • the value and role of email disclaimers
  • other legal areas such as defamation and confidentiality
  • are emails subject to the same law as other company stationery

The document also contains a model email and internet use policy which covers issues such as email viruses and can be issued to employees The standard cost of the document is £250 pounds plus VAT. It is free to CUA members.
