11:30 - 12:15 The business advantages of XML technology
Alex Lochhead, SAA Consultants
Organisations are now reluctant to invest in technology just to keep up with architectural advances. The current market reality is that enterprises want to re-use their existing infrastructure to create more value as well as implement new technologies. SAA will describe how organisations can utilise the flexibility of XML and reference a specific Case Study to illustrate how to improve B2B processes and achieve the desired business advantage in terms of efficiency of deployment and utilisation of an existing IT infrastructure.
Alex Lochhead is the Chairman of SAA Consultants Ltd. Alex’s earlier career was in Business Systems Analysis and MIS management in the retail, wholesale and manufacturing industries. Alex co-founded SAA in 1988 and the company went on to become a leading EDI provider specialising in large enterprise solutions across multiple industry sectors. Alex has led SAA's transition to a specialist Virtual Business Networking solution provider and pioneer within the field of XML and Web Services deployment and B2B integration.

12:15 - 13:00 Transitioning Your Business from EDI to XML
Chris Gaughan, Harbinger Commerce
While the adoption of XML has been slower than many expected several years ago, the usage of XML is growing along with the benefits.  However, this transition to XML must be made in a cost-effective manner that leverages your existing investments.  Harbinger Commerce will discuss how you can grow your trading community with both EDI and XML in a fashion that leverages the strengths of both formats, thus increasing your productivity while keeping your costs under control.
Chris Gaughan is responsible for the strategy and direction of Harbinger Commerce's TrustedLink iSeries product line.  Chris has 13 years of experience in the software industry with a strong focus on e-Commerce on the iSeries platform.  He has assisted many companies with the challenges of implementing e-Commerce within their trading communities including the transition from EDI to XML.  The award winning TrustedLink iSeries product is the world's leading EDI translation software product on the IBM iSeries platform.

14:00 - 14:45 Stripping cost from secure XML messaging
Euan Robertson, Spektra Systems
In today's economic climate cost is an issue and one way to strip cost from the supply chain is by using electronic channels to enable Straight Through Processing between partners. XML is vital in the open exchange of information; however it doesn't solve the fundamental problem of integration, the semantics. How do we use XML without adding cost into the business?
As director of strategy and growth for Spektra, Euan Robertson provides industry insight, research and business development strategy on behalf of the company and many of its largest clients, including providers and advisory firms from across the financial services industry. Euan’s financial services experience spans more than a decade, during which he has published several thought-leadership papers, covering topics such as distributed systems and online product distribution. He has an MBA and is a Chartered Member of the IEE. He was also chairman of the Scottish Software Federation, leading it through the merger process with The Internet Society of Scotland and IMAS to form ScotlandIS.

15:15 - 16:00 XML-based Patterns for Integrated Web Solutions
Chris Shinn, Consyse
This session will show how XML-based ‘patterns’ can be used to deliver integrated web solutions from four perspectives - web content management, corporate intranets & extranets, customised development and enterprise systems integration, including inter-working with iSeries applications. This new approach to web development will be discussed in terms of its power to meet potential business demands. This will be amply illustrated through the demonstration of live working e-business applications. Although not a technical presentation, attendees will gain an appreciation of how the underlying XML ‘pattern’ technology has been used to build and maintain these applications.
Chris Shinn has 30 years’ I T experience and is a co-founder of Consyse, a company that has provided IBM midrange services since it started in 1990. During the last two years, Chris has been involved with Consyse’s flagship product, CompleteContent, for both web development and integrated content management solutions.
