10:10 Keynote: Why Consolidate or Partition?
Nigel Adams - IBM United Kingdom Limited
This opening session will review the current state of the market with respect to consolidation and multiple workloads, looking at current trends, and discussing why such projects should be considered in terms of business benefits.

Nigel is iSeries Product and Sales Programme Manager having worked for IBM for over 25 years. During that period he has been involved with most of the Rochester products including System/3, System/32, System/34, System/36/, System/38, AS/400 and iSeries. In the early 1990s Nigel was responsible for producing the AS/400 System Handbook and AS/400 System Builder which have become essential reference documents for the system. For the last 8 years Nigel has been the Product Manager for the AS/400 and now for the iSeries in the UK and latterly across the EMEA Northern Region. In this role Nigel supports IBM sales and technical people and Business Partners in selling and supporting the iSeries. A major part of his role is communicating new hardware and software announcements to these audiences as well as to customers

Paul Dawson  - APEX Computers International Ltd

The IBM i5 is arguably the most flexible system available in terms of supporting multiple workloads, on demand resources, and partitioning. This overview session will ensure all delegates are up to date with the latest features in the iSeries technology.

Paul works as a Senior Consultant for Apex Computers International Ltd. Specialising in solutions on the iSeries and Linux platforms, he has worked with AS/400 and iSeries since 1988 and frequently contributes to Open Source projects. Paul is an IBM iSeries Certified Systems Expert, and also Linux Professional Institute certified.

Some of the key features included in the i5 hardware platform over the traditional iSeries include the HMC and support for uncapped partitioning. In this interactive session, experts from IBM will take everyone through these areas demonstrating the benefits with simulations, enabling delegates to see the functions in action.

Paul is the UK technical lead for LPAR on the iSeries and is responsible for ensuring the technical vitality of iSeries opportunities in the UK that he leads. He presents IBM vision and strategy to his clients as well as iSeries technologies encompassing IT optimisation, Logical Partitioning and High Availability as they are announced to the UK market place. Paul has an excellent relationship with the iSeries Business Partner community and is often called upon to validate Business Partner lead proposals and facilitate in high value, complex iSeries solutions

Geoff Cole - Real Solutions Limited
This session will cover the options available for the critical area of storage, a key consideration when planning server consolidation and/or partitioning of systems for multiple workloads, and an area that has changed significantly for the iSeries platform over recent months.

Geoff is Senior Storage Consultant for REAL Solutions. Before working with Real Geoff held a number of senior sales support and marketing roles within IBM's Storage Systems organisation in the UK, EMEA and in USA. He has more than 20 years experience with storage solutions. He has co-authored several IBM storage networking Redbooks, as well as developing white papers and other publications. He has been a regular speaker at IBM and other international industry conferences.

14:30 Case Study: Consolidation & Multiple Workloads
Paul Butler - Serco
The closing presentation of the day will bring many of the previous discussion topics together with a real life case study of a working solution including dual i5 systems and i5/OS and AIX workloads

Paul works as a Senior Consultant for Serco, advising customers on optimising their server and storage infrastructure. Although he is a technical specialist mainly on the iSeries, Paul has expanded his knowledge into the other brands within the eServer range and storage products. Over the past few years he has focused on analysing the cost of running current server infrastructures and advising customers on ways to reduce operating costs through server consolidation and platform selection.
