10.05  Welcome and an Insight into Projects at Hursley

Dr Peter Waggett

This presentation will provide an introduction to the Hursley Laboratory and cover some of the more interesting projects here in Emerging Technology Services (e-diamond, Norwich Union Pay and Go car insurance project, and data mining)

 

Dr Waggett runs the emerging technology programme at IBM's Hursley Laboratory.  The programme is responsible for providing specialist solutions to a range of new and emerging technology challenges.  The team is currently working on a series of projects including those using Grid computing, pervasive technology and knowledge management solutions. Prior to this assignment Dr Waggett was the Lead Principal for IBM's UK Travel and Transport group which implemented a range of solutions including the British Airways E-Commerce platform.. Dr Waggett acts as a representative on a number of UK standards committees and has provided advice to a number of UK Government agencies.

Martin Smith is the IBM Portal & Workplace leader in IBM's Software Group, and is a regular speaker at IBM customer focussed events. In his 12 years at IBM Martin has undertaken a number of varied roles. He started as a business development manager with the Lotus Professional Services organisation, and progressed to being Regional Director for Lotus services business in South Africa and the Middle East. He then undertook a year long role as project director for Lotus largest deployment of Notes/Domino. Having undertaken another 2 year assignment working for Lotus' WW sales organisation, Martin returned to the UK in 2002. Since then he has concentrated on the Lotus portfolio and Portal.

Stefan Klincewicz

Stefan explores how we rethink IT from a user’s perspective by building dynamic workplaces from re-useable components.  He will consider the dynamic e workplace using Portal and collaborative applications to deliver within architectures that give both user and business benefits.

 

Stefan Klincewicz is a Certified Senior IT Specialist in the IBM Software Business. Stefan has worked in IBM for over 10 years, specialising in Workplace, Portal & Collaboration technologies, and is currently the Chairman of the WebSphere Portal Special Interest Group UK

 

13.15   The Domino effect

 Darren Adams

The value propositions and role of Domino in the market are explored in this presentation which also covers the future plans and roadmaps for Notes and Domino.

 

Darren Adams, a Lotus veteran of nearly 14 years, heads up a team of Messaging and Collaboration Solutions specialists. Darren started with Lotus Development as a Customer Support Specialist, moved to sales to take on a technical pre-sales role, and spent three years as the Lotus Technical Sales Manager for EMEA's North Region.

 

14.00   Mobility – the view from IBM

Peter Bays

Being mobile is being able to work anywhere, anytime.  Increasingly this is a requirement in business and one where IBM is a leading proponent.   This presentation describes the challenges and benefits from having a mobile workforce and thus is a topic for of interest to any organization in at whatever stage in the transition to a mobile workforce.

 

Peter Bays has a wide range of IBM experience and is currently the Mobility Manager for IBM North Region working within the Business Transformation and Information Technology team.

15.45   Update – iSeries                                                          

Nigel Adams

Nigel, a speaker familiar to many in the CUA, will talk on the iSeries Market including an update and product directions. 

 

Nigel Adams is iSeries Product and Sales Programme Manager and has worked for IBM for over 25 years. During that period he has been involved with most of the Rochester products including System/3, System/32, System/34, System/36/, System/38, AS/400 and iSeries.  In the mid 1980s Nigel spent three years working in the International Technical Support Centre in Rochester supporting the System/36 from its announcement. In the early 1990s Nigel was responsible for producing the AS/400 System Handbook and AS/400 System Builder which have become essential reference documents for the system. For the last 8 years Nigel has been the Product Manager for the AS/400 and now for the iSeries in the UK and latterly across the EMEA Northern Region. In this role Nigel supports IBM sales and technical people and Business Partners in selling and supporting the iSeries. A major part of his role is communicating new hardware and software announcements to these audiences as well as to customers.
