10:05     IXS/IXA : Integration with iSeries/i5 - What, Why and How?
Jyoti Dodhia, IBM iSeries/i5 Technical  Support team, IBM  UK

This session will cover the benefits of integrating and managing Windows/Linux workloads within the iSeries/i5, using the IXS/IXA solution. Learn how to simplify management of your infrastructure and reduce the total cost of ownership.  The session will include information of the latest the IXS/IXA offerings, how to manage the environment via iSeries Navigator, and examples of who has implemented such solutions.

Jyoti Dodhia is a Senior IT Specialist in the iSeries/i5 Technical  Support team. She is the  UK technical lead for Windows Integration (IXS/IXA) in iSeries/i5. Jyoti provides technical support on specific client opportunities, as well as education, to the IBM and Business Partner communities. She has over 18 years of experience with IBM and has worked on iSeries servers and its predecessors, in both pre-sales and post-sales support.

Virtualisation of computer systems has been around for many years in the mainframe world and has now seen acceptance in the POWER and Intel space too. This session looks at how the iSeries virtualisation features such as LPAR, virtual networking and virtual storage spaces can help your business reduce IT costs by simplifying your OS/400, AIX, Linux and Windows server environments

Glenn Robinson is a Managing Director of Quattro Consulting, the UK’s leading independent technical support consultancy for the i5, iSeries and AS/400. Glenn has over twenty years of technical support and consultancy experience both on the platform, as well as within a Business Partner environment. Over the years Glenn has worked closely with representatives of IBM UK and the IBM Development Labs in Santa Palomba ,  Italy . During his time working with iSeries-AS/400, Glenn has managed some of the UK's largest iSeries-AS/400 sites and most prestigious iSeries users including Harrods, Selfridges, Barclays Bank and British Airways.

John Taylor is Technical Director of the Typex Group plc, a Business Partner of IBM, GXS and AT&T's Global Network. Typex specialises in helping businesses to save money with infrastructure asset management. John is an author of three IBM Redbooks and of magazine articles on this subject and speaks at customer conferences worldwide. He is the architect of IBM's BlueNotes family of software products which integrate Lotus Notes and Domino with IBM eServers.  John is a board member of the COMMON UK user group. He is a Chartered Civil Engineer by profession and lives in  Newcastle upon Tyne, England  with his wife and daughter. He can be reached at john_taylor@typex.com.
 

 

15:00      Infrastructure Consolidation

Brian Macfaden IBM Systems and Technology Group, IBM  UK

Today's server technologies allow organisations to significantly consolidate and simplify their IT infrastructure.  This presentation will describe those technologies, particularly on IBM's pSeries (UNIX) and iSeries platforms, and how they are being used to consolidate many different platforms into a smaller number. It will also discuss the benefits of consolidation, and how it will help organisations to become more flexible and dynamic as we move towards an On Demand world.

Brian Macfaden works as a System Architect in IBM UK Systems and Technology Group, advising customers on optimising their server and storage infrastructure. He is a technical specialist across all of IBM's servers and storage products.  Over the three years he has been doing this role his primary activities have been analysing the cost of running current server infrastructures and advising customers on ways to reduce the costs, server consolidation studies, and advising customers on platform selection. Brian regularly presents to customers on IBM's latest server and storage technologies, including autonomic computing and On Demand.
