Join us for a valuable day of iSeries /400 information, brought to you by Tele Conference Sessions and on site speakers. All are specialists in their respective fields.

It will be a day full of topical sessions followed by a social celebration of St Patricks Day.

 

It is not aimed at ‘selling’ you anything, but this seminar is designed to update and advise on the future roadmaps for these areas of I T and the Business. There will be ample time for peer group discussions around these and indeed any other relevant topics together with excellent access to the high level speakers for one to one conversations during the day.

RPG Enhancements – V5R4 Onwards

The V5R4 and V6R1 release saw significant enhancements in RPG IV, some like the XML support, so big that they need a whole session to describe. V7R1 has even bigger enhancements on the way.
In this session we will provide a brief overview of the enhancements in V5R4 and V6R1 (XML support, embedding SQL in /Free-format, enhancements in PREFIX support, the new EVAL-CORR operation code for copying data between data structures, file definition in subprocedures etc.) and discuss some of the possible enhancements in V7R1.

Paul Tuohy has worked in the development of IBM midrange applications for 24 years.  He has been IT manager of Kodak Ireland and technical director of Precision Software Ltd.  He is currently CEO of ComCon, a midrange consultancy company. Paul has been lecturing at IBM Learning Services in Dublin for the last 18 years. He is the author of "Re-engineering RPG Legacy Applications" and "iSeries Navigator for Programmers" and he is one  of the quoted industry experts in the IBM Redbook "Who knew you could do that with RPG IV?". Paul has won numerous speaker awards at Common conferences.

Andrew has extensive knowledge of the System i having been involved since its launch in 1988. Starting in 2007 with his involvement in the Beta program for DB2 Web Query he has gained an understanding on how to maximise its value and deliver business benefit. He is a regular speaker on the topic of  "System i Enterprise Modernisation" which incorporates DB2 Web Query amongst other IBM solutions.

XML certainly appears to be the future of data interchange. It provides a powerful way to describe and encode data that is system independent. XML is quickly becoming the standard data interchange language for business-to-business applications. Along with its sister languages, XSLT and schemas, this skill is becoming a "must have" in today's IT world. In this session you will learn what XML is, the basic syntax of the language, how it can be used in your applications, and how it will likely affect your applications in the future. We will also discuss how XML may be handled in RPG.

Come and find out how the DB2 for i 6.1 features that can help your IBM i databases and applications take a giant leap forward. You will learn how these new database features and functions can be used to improve your applications and to reduce your design and development time. You will also be hearing about the self-learning capabilities of the SQL Query Engine and the productivity gains delivered by the enhancements to the DB2 OnDemand Performance tools in System i Navigator. We will also take a look into the past and the future of DB2 for i.
Tom is an IBM Lab Services Consultant working on DB2 for IBM i Operating System in Rochester MN working to help customers implement solutions using DB2 on IBM i. His main focus is complex query performance associated with Business Intelligence running on Very Large Databases. Prior to joining IBM Lab services he worked as a developer and performance analyst in the DB2 development area from 1986 until 2006. Some of his Major pieces of development work include the Symmetric Multiple processing capabilities of DB2 for IBM i as well as Large Object Data types. In addition he was on the original team that designed and built the SQL Query Engine. Prior to Database he work on Licensed Internal Code for System 34 and System 36. Tom has presented at many user groups, such as COMMON, and at IBM technical conferences.
